The Area Coordinator role for Neighbourhood Watch (NHW).

In outline, the role of an Area Coordinator is to manage the local watch area by:
- maintaining a confidential record of members, their contact details and an email distribution list with which to keep them informed and updated;
- registering any residents who apply to join as new members;
- distributing relevant information to members by email;
- encouraging measures to strengthen security and being a source of relevant security information for members.

The full details of what you may do in this role are set out in the attached document Area Coordinator Role, although how much of this you can manage depends on the amount of time you have available; not everyone can manage everything.

The role includes responsibility for the collection, management and safekeeping of personal data for your members and these are detailed in the attached document Coordinators’ Responsibilities for Members’ Personal Data

By becoming a coordinator you will be kept updated about recent crimes, security risks and security measures to address them. We aim to keep you informed primarily by email, and occasionally by phone or in person for urgent communications.

New General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) require that, as a coordinator, we:
(i) hold written consent from you to hold your personal data;
(ii) have informed you of how we use your data; and
(iii) have informed you of your rights with respect to your data.

Written consent

The new regulations require that you have opted in to Neighbourhood Watch holding your personal details, that you understand how NHW will use them, and that you understand your rights with respect to your data that we hold. The registration process will include your confirmation of consent .
